Montessori kindergarten activities include developing social skills along with their more apparent academic goals. Learning to take turns, give rather than receive, and understand the value of equality are vital aspects of social development that mix readily with just about everything two or more children may be involved in. Taking Turns With Toys
Private kindergarten classes have a limited number of resources and children have to learn to take turns with others so that everyone gets an opportunity. The willingness to share is a recent development for small children, and mastering the ability to take turns is a major developmental milestone. Self Esteem and Giving Discovering that giving to others provides a good feeling about themselves encourages children to share and give. This is the age when children may offer impromptu gifts to friends or family members. This happens as much to please the person they are giving to as to receive that “warm and fuzzy” feeling for themselves. Reading About Sharing Reading books that concern sharing activities show children that sharing is a widely practiced concept, and offers clues on how to share in a friendly and encouraging way. Books are also a great item to share with others, helping children share things they enjoyed so others can enjoy them as well. Donating Items Donating things is another way to teach and encourage children to share. Clothing that no longer fits, toys that have been outgrown, and items that your children no longer use are all good ideas of things to donate. By making your child part of the decision to donate, you give her a sense of inclusion and the impression that she has a voice when it comes to items that she has always considered her own. Helping your child master the art of giving takes a lot of practice. Start off small and build on your private kindergarten child’s sharing skills as she develops. Many of the concepts of sharing and giving are new to her experience, so be patient as she learns the intricacies of social interactions. It takes time and practice, but the rewards will last her a lifetime. Comments are closed.
