Getting your Montessori preschool child into nature is the first step in finding a million ways for her to have fun. Once you are outdoors, the trees and stones can help her invent games of her own, or you can try out these popular games to help get things started. Leaf Collector
Trees are everywhere, from the daycare to your neighborhood parks. The object of this game is to find as many leaves from different trees as possible in a predetermined period of time. This game can be branched out to include other natural items as well, a veritable nature scavenger hunt. Depending on where you live, it could even be a game of identifying different birds. The object is to learn through personal experience as part of the Montessori method. Walking a Log Balancing on the upper edge of a fallen log can be difficult, but children who learn at an early age develop the fine motor skills necessary to do it properly. Small children will be thrilled to walk back and forth on a log, climb over it, try to get under it, and generally have a blast with a fallen tree. While learning, use a stick for a cane to provide a third point of balance. Skipping Stones Learning to skip stones takes practice, and this game is all about practicing. Try to set a new record for the number of skips, or practice skipping stones to a specific spot on the water. This activity is all about muscular development and fine motor control, so even the skips that don’t skip are successful. Learn to Fish With a pole and a bucket, children can begin to learn the art of placing bait where they want it. Tie a washer to the line instead of a hook, and try to hit the sweet spot by dropping the washer in the bucket. Using a rod and reel instead of a pole makes the game more challenging and a lot more entertaining for the little ones. Any sort of physical activity will help daycare children develop strong bones and muscles, give them a headstart on dexterity, and provide other physical lessons. In the process, children who are given more time outside tend to be happier and better able to focus on other tasks after playtime is over. Comments are closed.
