Your private kindergarten library should include a variety of books, old and new alike. In addition to whimsically worded books and titles that teach about social issues of science subjects, be sure to include a few biographies, a dictionary, and assorted easy reference books. Yo! Yes? By Chris Raschka
This book about two young boys developing a new friendship uses only 34 unique words. Don’t be fooled by the limited vocabulary, though, as this book includes wonderful life lessons about diversity, friendship, and the human bond. This book offers complex interactions in the simplest way, earring it a place in any private kindergarten library. The Word Collector By Peter H. Reynolds Some people collect coins, and others collect stamps or other things. But Jerome collects words. Follow along as Jerome explores the world of words. Short words, long words, and how words are used together make this an exciting foray into the English language. The Cat in the Hat By Dr. Seuss In addition to entertaining children for generations, this masterpiece is also an exploration of moral and philosophical concepts like personal responsibility, interacting with strangers, and accepted behavioral norms. Reference Material Every child will have different interests, and the selection of reference books you provide should correspond to a large portion of them. From dictionaries and children’s thesauruses to books about animals, the universe, or making paper airplanes, there are hundreds of children’s reference books to choose from. Try to secure newer versions to accommodate the many new discoveries in the last 10 to 20 years. Children’s Biographies Children can explore the deepest oceans with Jacques Cousteau, live among the chimps with Jane Goodall, or learn about the first women scientists, African inventors, and everything from General Relativity to the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. Help your daughter discover the people behind their favorite things and activities. Keep in mind that children love to learn about new things, places, and people. By feeding her curiosity now, you are encouraging her to read as she gets older. Learning that books are an excellent source of information is a valuable skill in itself. Comments are closed.
