Montessori daycare and primary school are a little different than traditional types of early education. To begin, Montessori is designed to function in 3-year mixed-age blocks, but more importantly, the Montessori Method is an excellent way to build confidence and positive social behaviors that will be beneficial as your child gets older. By instilling confidence at an early age, children are given the tools and abilities to play an active role at home and with other children. Focus on Self
At first, a child’s emotions revolve around their personal desires and needs. The Montessori Method helps children focus those thoughts and emotions in positive ways that produce positive outcomes. When children begin to understand why they feel the way they do, they are better able to act in a responsible way. “I can” is the message of self-esteem, and it affects everything a child does and learns. Practical Life Children are small people and they yearn to feel like a viable part of the family, classroom, and community. Practical life skills like pouring, cleaning up, and personal hygiene teach vital skills for the real world, instilling confidence and self-esteem in the process. Little jobs such as helping set the table for meals show children that they can play a part in activities rather than being an onlooker as events take place. Social Interaction Self-esteem and practical life experiences are meant to be shared with a child’s friends, family, and the world around them. Having established the tools for positive thinking and positive contributions, building a social framework is the final step in building confidence. This includes being courteous and kind, working with others as a team, and having the confidence to interact with others. The Montessori Method does not end when your child leaves school for the day. Parents are encouraged to use the same practices at home, reinforcing and expanding what the children learn by making it a matter-of-fact part of education. Comments are closed.
