Quiet time should be a regular part of the preschool child’s routine. More than just a time for the parents or teachers to take a break, quiet time is a period of intense development, building self-esteem, increasing academic skills, and learning more about the world they live in.
Circle time is when the class or individual groups of preschool children gather in one area for a particular activity. This could be storytime, playing stay-in-place games, singing, or any other group activity. This type of activity is important to young children in a variety of developmental goals.
Preschool children love to learn, but they have difficulty working with abstract numbers. Using legos to provide a concrete basis for numbers. This makes it easier for them to learn about math, from sorting and counting to multiplication and working with fractions.
The earlier your preschool daughter begins to learn about the importance of math in her life, the more likely she will be to use it regularly rather than shying away from numbers. Girls can learn just as well as boys, so including math in her daily life helps overcome many of the societal barriers that have held girls back through the ages.
Preschool children are perfectly capable of seeing differences in skin color and gender, they just haven’t learned to be biased by those differences. In the Montessori classroom, racial, gender, and ethnic traits are embraced as opportunities to learn about far-away places and cultural practices. And underneath, grace and courtesy are cornerstones of social interaction that transcend the ways we are different and unite us in a single society.
Like courtesy and grace, tolerance and acceptance are key parts of Montessori preschool education. Patience, understanding, and caring are given equal time with practical life experiences because these things are fundamental to a well-rounded individual who will mature into a responsible member of society.
Children begin learning about gratitude as soon as they develop awareness that they rely on others to care for them. They might not understand what it means to be grateful, but even in their early years, they become familiar with the concept when they realize they depend on others for their well-being and favors.
Getting your Montessori preschool child into nature is the first step in finding a million ways for her to have fun. Once you are outdoors, the trees and stones can help her invent games of her own, or you can try out these popular games to help get things started.
By the time they are in preschool children are ready to begin helping out around the house. Being assigned routine tasks is also beneficial in childhood development. Regular tasks affect everything from fine motor control to critical thinking skills and social interaction.
Your child’s Montessori preschool will be investigating International Women’s Day during the month of March. International Women’s Day, or IWD, is an annual event supporting the efforts of women all over the world. It is a day to recognize the achievements of women and honor those who have taken up the cause on behalf of others.
